Established in 2008, the African Nutrition Society (ANS) is a registered scientific professional body, a learned society formed by nutritional scientists, food scientists and other health professionals working in, and with an interest in the nutrition agenda for Africa. ANS was established as an umbrella organization among others, to develop and promote the nutrition profession in Africa and to oversee the Africa nutritional Epidemiology conferences (ANEC) which have been running since 2002.

Membership to the African Nutrition Society is open to anyone with a genuine interest in the science of nutrition and its application to clinical and dietetic states, developmental biology and chronic disease, animal nutrition and health, the food industry, food security, nutrition and health policy. Members are spread across many countries world wide and are growing. Our members are involved in many different occupations, from students just starting out on their nutrition education journey to senior academics or nutritionists in industry. The Nutrition Society has something to offer to all of them.
The African Journal of Nutrition is a unifying scientific journal that displays outputs of nutritional research, epidemiology, interventions, nutrition education, policy and governance and programmatic activity across the continent of Africa and similar innovative work from other parts of parts of the world.
